American Corner Skopje and American Educational Center

Celebrates Our Second Anniversary on Thursday, January 25, 2007

The Mission of the American Corner in Skopje is to build bridges of understanding between the United States of America and the Republic of  Macedonia.  The American Corner is a partnership between the Public Affairs Office at the US Embassy in Skopje and the Braka Miladinovci City Library. The American Corner currently supports a membership of over 2200 members, maintains a collection of more than 1500 books and 24 periodicals, and has organized over 100 events in the past year.

American Corner Skopje also serves as an alumni center where citizens of Macedonia who have been to the United States on exchange programs can gather together, and keep in touch with their American and Macedonian contacts.   All segments of the population are welcome to use the American Corner resources free of charge. We hope they will find them useful and interesting. Please stop by and join us. Membership is free to everyone.

The American Corner enables access to the most recent and accurate information from and about the United States through book collections, magazines, CD-ROMs, and the Internet.  The Corner facilitates deeper discussions through the creation of programs intended for a wide range of audiences.  The American Corner hosts a variety of events designed to bring Americans and Macedonians closer together.  Programs regularly include U.S. speakers, Embassy officers, Fulbright Scholars, video and DVD showings, exhibits, round-table discussions, seminars, English conversation hours, children’s programs and workshops.  Past topics have included history, government, literature, economic development, law, journalism, culture and society, and the Corner welcomes you to suggest future programs you would like to attend.  Future plans include reaching out further to diverse Macedonian communities, welcoming high school classes, and further enriching the Macedonian – American relations.

We welcome you to to visit the American Corner on the day of our second anniversary or any time to see how we’ve grown.  Below you will find some photos of last year’s celebration.

American Corner Skopje opened January 25, 2005 at the City Library “Braka Miladinovci” in Skopje.
