Opening of American Corner in Tetovo

On Thursday, January 17, at 14:00, U.S. Ambassador Gillian Milovanovic, Macedonian Minister of Culture Arifhikmet Xhemaili and the Mayor of Tetovo, Hazbi Lika, will open the new “American Corner” at the House of Culture in Tetovo. This project is the result of a partnership between the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Macedonia, and the Municipality of Tetovo, the House of Culture and NGO Aurora.
This will be the third American Corner in Macedonia. Both the American Corner in Bitola, which opened in October 2003, and the American Corner in Skopje, which opened in January 2005, have proved to be successes to date, each receiving more than 11,000 visits and offering over 100 programs per year.
Like the other two, the American Corner in Tetovo will provide free of charge, information to the general public about the United States through books, magazines, special publications, CD-ROMs, and the Internet. It will also host a wide variety of events, such as cultural programs and guest lectures. Membership will be free and open to the general public. Opening hours will be Monday-Friday from 10:00 to 20:00 and Saturday from 11:00 to 16:00.
There will also be a special open house on Friday, January 18 from 10:00 to 20:00.
