Ambassador Reeker Participates in Graduation Ceremony for Macedonian Border Police

In a ceremony on Friday, October 31, at the West Regional Border Affairs Center in Ohrid, U.S. Ambassador Philip Reeker will join representatives from the Macedonian Interior Ministry to present certificates to a group of Macedonian border police officers, who completed a U.S. Government funded “Advanced Small Boat Operations Training.”

The “Advanced Small Boat Operations Training” was carried out by the United States Coast Guard International Program through the U.S. Embassy Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS). This was the first United States Coast Guard course provided to the Republic of Macedonia during which twelve border police officers received technical skills training to better safeguard Macedonia’s borders from illegal activities at Lakes Ohrid, Prespa and Dojran.

Background: Since the office was opened in 2004, U.S. Embassy- Skopje EXBS Program has conducted over 50 trainings for Macedonian institutions including the Ministries of Interior, Finance, Economy, Defense and Foreign Affairs. It has also donated equipment valued over US 850,000.00 mainly to Ministry of Interior-Border Police and Ministry of Finance-Customs Administration in an effort to secure Macedonia’s borders and prevent the illegal movement of goods and people.
