U.S. Government donates vehicle to the Radiation Safety Directorate of the Republic of Macedonia

On February 26, 2008 a LADA Niva vehicle worth $12,570.00 was presented to the Radiation Safety Directorate of Republic of Macedonia through the US Embassy’s Export Control and Border Security Office. This donation will assist the Radiation Safety Directorate in its field activities in performing radiation safety controls which will result in enhanced ionizing radiation protection of the Macedonian territory and its borders.
The Radiation Safety Directorate of Republic of Macedonia is an independent institution within the state administration that was established in 2005 for performing administrative and expert activities concerning ionizing radiation protection. The Radiation Safety Directorate establishes the system for control of all ionizing radiation sources, provides adequate protection of the population, society and environment from harmful ionizing radiation effects and performs supervision of the authorized expert technical services, legal entities and individuals that possess ionizing radiation sources throughout the territory of Republic of Macedonia. The Radiation Safety Directorate actively participates in the international cooperation concerning ionizing radiation and radiation and nuclear safety and security.
This donation is part of the U.S. Government support to the Republic of Macedonia that contributes to increased capacity in countering threats posed by weapons of mass destruction and related materials and technologies crossing international borders.
