United States Congressional Delegation visits Macedonia

March 14, 2008

U.S. Congressional Delegation led by Representative David Price, and including Representatives David Drier, Lois Capps, Adam Schiff, Wayne Gilchrest, Earl Pomeroy and Judy Biggert will visit Macedonia March 16 through 18. The delegation will meet with the President of the Macedonian Assembly, Ljubisa Georgievski, and other Macedonian parliamentarians as representatives of the U.S. House Democracy Assistance Commission (HDAC). HDAC runs a partnership program between the U.S. Congress and the Macedonian Parliament that facilitates the sharing of best practices among legislators and improves bilateral ties.  HDAC was created by the U.S. House of Representatives in March 2005 and began multi-year partnership with the Macedonian Assembly in 2006.

While in Macedonia, the delegation will also have meetings with President Branko Crvenkovski, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, Deputy Prime Minister Imer Aliu, Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki, and with officials from the Municipality of Negotino.

On Monday, March 17, the delegation will take part in an inauguration ceremony of a new Library of the Macedonian Assembly.

At the end of the visit on March 18, Chairman Price will make a brief statement together with Prime Minister Gruevski.
