How To Assemble Documents Prior To Interview with Consular Officer
In order to improve visa processing, all the documents provided by an applicant have to be prepared and assembled as described below. Please make an effort to put the documents in the required sequence before the interview.
Passport
Passports of all applicants should be put together and passed to the clerk without covers of any kind. Passports must have at least 6 months validity before the visa can be issued.
Photos
Each applicant has to submit two photos with his name and surname on the back of the picture. It is required to provide right-profile photos for immigrant visa and straight-forward ones for K visas. Please find more on photo requirements.
Documents
Put the documents in the order presented below. Make sure they are all taken out of plastic covers and sleeves. If you want your originals to be returned to you, please provide photo copies as well. A consular officer will check the originals and keep the copy.
1. a) For immigrants: form DS-230 part I and II
b) For K visa: form DS-156 in duplicate and form DS-156
2. High school diploma (applies to DV applicants only)
3. Birth Certificate
4. Marriage Certificate (if applies)
5. Death Certificate for spouse (as applicable)
6. Divorce Decree (if applies)
7. For K visas, and employment based petitions: Form I-134 (shorten version of Affidavit of Support)
8. Police Certificate (if applies) and court convictions (if any)
Medical Examinations
The results of medical examinations have to be submitted in the original envelope. Please do not open the envelope. The consular officer will open the envelope.
Financial Documents
A. For family- based and employment-based immigrant visas:
- I-864 Affidavit of Support (personally signed by the sponsor. Pages should be put together according to numerical order)
- I-864A Supplemental Affidavit of Support for the household member, if the sponsor is not the sole earner in the household and the sponsor's income alone is not sufficient to meet the required income levels.
- Federal Income Tax Returns for the past three years: from the sponsor.
- W2 or 1099 forms for the past three years.- Additional documents confirming the fact that the sponsor is employed, such as a letter from the employer or recent payroll stubs.
- If the sponsor has been collecting unemployment compensation, an explanation of the reasons for collecting unemployment compensation must be submitted.
B. For DV applicants:
Provided they are all mentioned on the I-864 form, the family members going to the US together may submit only one set of the financial documents
