U.S. Government Donates Specialized Radiation Detection Equipment to the Republic of Macedonia

In a ceremony held Thursday, July19, at the Military Academy in Skopje, U.S. Ambassador Gillian Milovanovic handed over specialized radiation detection and measuring equipment to the Government of the Republic of Macedonia. Minister of Defense Lazar Elenovski, Minister of Interior Gordana Jankulovska and other officials participated in the ceremony. The donation, valued at nearly $300,000, was made possible by the International Counter Proliferation Program of the U.S. Department of Defense.
The donation ceremony came at the conclusion of a three-day Radiation Detection and Response training program organized by the U.S. Embassy’s Export Control and Border Security Office.

This training and equipment donation is an investment in the future of the Republic of Macedonia and of the entire region. By providing increased capacity to counter the threat posed by the flow of weapons of mass destruction and related materials and technologies across international borders, the equipment enhances Macedonia’s ability to keep its borders safe and secure.
