June 9, 2008

USAID Administrator and Director of Foreign Assistance Henrietta H. Fore met today with President Branko Crvenkovski. They discussed past accomplishments of the U.S. Government assistance to Macedonia, as well as the two countries’ common development goals for the future.

Administrator Fore also encouraged continued progress on implementation of the Framework Agreement, and highlighted the importance of continued efforts to resolve the name dispute with Greece.  She thanked President Crvenkovski for Macedonia’s supportive role on Kosovo status, and urged continued progress on demarcation of the Kosovo-Macedonia border.

Ms. Fore emphasized that the United States Government will continue to urge the Government of Macedonia to ensure that re-runs of the Parliamentary elections are free, fair, and peaceful, and stressed the importance of appropriate sanctions against those found to have committed electoral violence and fraud.
