June 13, 2009 It’s been a great honor for me to participate in this first ever Global Conference of the United Macedonian Diaspora. I think it has been a great opportunity for Macedonians from all around the world and of course, from many parts of the United States to come together to meet with friends, to meet with colleagues, to make new friends, discus the Macedonian heritage and their interest in Macedonia, and also to discus the challenges that Macedonia faces and how we can all work together to help. The United States of course, remains Macedonia’s best friend as we are trying since Macedonia’s independence to help provide assistance and direction and together we can face the many challenges that we all face in the twenty first century world. I think it’s great that UMD has put together this conference. I think it’s great that UMD has brought together many diverse organizations representing different Macedonian communities around the United States and around the world, because together they can all help Macedonia as I said to deal with the problems it faces, to become more a secure, more stable, more prosperous country.

January 5, 2009 In an interview with A1 TV on January 5, Consular Section Chief Lauren May discussed the criteria that countries must meet for eligibility in the visa waiver program and explained where Macedonia stands in that regard. One key reason why Macedonia has not yet been considered for the visa waiver program is because too many travelers from Macedonia do not return from the U.S on time. Consul May also reviewed the procedures for the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) for travelers from visa waiver countries. |
