Statement of the U.S. Embassy

The US Embassy congratulates the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia today upon the opening of the building to commemorate Mother Teresa.  She serves as a model to us all of what one person can accomplish in a lifetime of dedication to the needs of others.  This is a meaningful day for all of the citizens of Macedonia that also carries special significance for the ethnic Albanians who are an important part of the strength and richness of this country.  The more Macedonia recognizes and embraces its multiethnic heritage, the more success it will have in the securing the best possible future for all of its citizens.  In the United States, we take pride in our very diverse heritage, and so it is a special pleasure to see this beautiful memorial.
