Mrs. Solveig Reeker Remarks at Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for USAID PEP Project Technology Lab at Vasil Glavinov School in Veles
October 29, 2009
Good Morning Mr. Chadiev, Mr. Prlickov, teachers and guests. On behalf of the United States Embassy in the Republic of Macedonia, it is an honor for me to be here today at the Vasil Glavinov school in Veles.
I am especially happy to be here for the opening of the 21st century Technology Lab. The new and renovated lab has created a great environment for both teaching and learning. I hope this will be a great incentive for the students to study and learn more.
The work you do in the new lab should not only develop an understanding of modern technology but should be a tool to help students be more creative and productive not only in Macedonia, but in the world.
USAID’s Primary Education Project has helped strengthen links between technical vocational schools and primary schools to develop an integrated curriculum which will provide the skills necessary for modern industry and for advanced studies at the university level.
Education should be a priority and we know can make a difference on many different levels. It helps to strengthen ties and cooperation between schools, local communities and businesses. I am happy to see representatives from the municipality and local business here today.
Such collaboration and cooperation will make education more relevant, provide additional resources for schools and increase their effectiveness.
Once again, I would like to thank Mr. Chadiev and the Vasil Glavinov School, Mr. Prlickov and the Municipality of Veles, PEP and their project managers for their cooperation and great work.
