SPEECHES, REMARKS & STATEMENTS IN 2012

Chargé d’Affaires Brian C. Aggeler remarks at Signing Ceremony for QSI’s New Building, June 20, 2012

Good afternoon, everyone.  It is a great pleasure to be here with you today.  This is a terrific day for a lot of people.  QSI has long needed new facilities with a quality that would be more on the level of the quality of teaching that the school offers.  Bob Tower and I were just talking the other day about how many years he has been working on making this happen.  Even in just the two years I’ve been here I know how many different approaches Bob has been trying to make this happen.  And now, thanks to the excellent support of Mayor Jakimovski in finding an innovative solution, QSI will finally have an excellent, new building.
As I said, this is a great day for a lot of people.  First, it’s a great day for the students and teachers of QSI who will enjoy the new facilities.  And it’s a terrific day for us at the U.S. embassy, whose children will be among those who will attend classes in this new facility.  The Karpos municipality has been a great friend to our embassy families for many years.  Karpos supports three schools that provide our embassy children with excellent educations, and this new QSI facility will continue that tradition.

It is also a great day for the local community.  This 3.5 million dollar investment will benefit the municipality by providing jobs, educational opportunities and additional funding that can help address the needs of the citizens of Karpos.
And finally it’s also a great day for the people of Macedonia, as this new school facility will help make Skopje a more attractive city for foreign companies and investors.  With a high quality education available in these improved facilities, more foreigners will be encouraged to make this great city their home.
QSI is a wonderful school and Karpos is a wonderful host.  Mr. Mayor, thank  you again for all you did to make this happen.  We at the U.S. Embassy are proud of the partnership we have all enjoyed, and look forward to a continuing strong relationship that will benefit all of us and at the same time help build a stronger, more prosperous Macedonia.  Thank you.
