In the summer of 2006, Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, became the first university in the U.S. to host the Ben Franklin Fellowship. This prestigious university in a scenic and historic part if the U.S. was selected to host the program in its inaugural year and awarded a grant by the State Department.
From this location, the American and foreign students will have the opportunity to visit cities that have played an important role in the American past and present, including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and historic Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.
Located since 1956 in Winston-Salem, Wake Forest University was founded in 1834 in the eastern North Carolina town of Wake Forest. A private, co-educational institution, it officially became a university in 1967.
